Rtd Sheriff Douglas Allan OBE, former Chairman of the CMJA Steering Committee passes away

It is with the deepest of sadness that we announce the passing of Rtd Sheriff Douglas Allan on 22 April 2023.  With his passing, former President, Justice Charles Mkandawire, said that the CMJA had lost a “pillar of the CMJA”.  Whilst Douglas retired as Chairman of the CMJA Steering Committee in 2o2o and from Council in September 2022, he continued to participate in the meetings, providing wisdom and good counsel in a gentle, friendly manner.  In 2022, the General Assembly of the CMJA,  recognised his long-standing contribution to the CMJA which dates back to before the Triennial Conference held in Edinburgh in 2000, by appointing him an Hon. Life Member of the Association.  In addition, the CMJA further recognised his contribution by changing the name of the Training Development Fund to the Douglas Allan Training Development Fund in recognition of his work in advancing judicial education.  He will be very much missed by all his friends across the Commonwealth.  Our prayers and thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
