CMJA Hon. Life Vice President, Michael Lambert, FCA, CBE and Dr John Buchanan, former CMJA Secretary General pass away

MICHAEL LAMBERT FCA, CBE

It is with deep sadness that I inform you that Michael Lambert passed away on Tuesday 23rd August.

Michael had been involved with the CMJA and CMA before that since the very early days, following the retirement of his father as Hon. Treasurer in 1977, taking on the dual role of Executive Vice President and Treasurer from 1994-2006, as well as chairing the Steering Committee until Douglas Allan took over.   In his capacity as Hon. Life Vice President, he continued to Chair the Honours Committee until just very recently.  He was heavily involved in the Organising Committee for the Joint Colloquium on Parliamentary Supremacy and Judicial Independence in 1997/8 which led to the formulation of the Latimer House Guidelines on Parliamentary Supremacy and Judicial Independence and in turn to the Latimer House Principles we all subscribe to.   He has always kept a keen interest in the work and activities of the CMJA and has formed many friendships with many of us over the years providing advice and support to some of us.   More recently he generously donated the funds for our commemorative publication celebrating the 50 years of the Association.   He will be very much missed by all who have worked with him and knew him. Our prayers and thoughts and with his family at this sad time.

DR JOHN BUCHANAN

We are deeply saddened to announce that John Buchanan, CMJA Secretary General from 1984-1995, passed away on 21 August 2022. He was instrumental in reforming and modernising the constitution of the CMJA. He was a kind-hearted and generous person and continued to be interested and involved with the CMJA even in retirement.  He formed many friendships during his time at the CMJA.   He will be very much missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
