Judicial Vacancies

JUDICIAL AND LEGAL SERVICE, BELIZE
VACANCY FOR THE POST OF
CHIEF JUSTICE, SUPREME COURT

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Chief Justice, Supreme Court, Belize.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
:
Minimum qualifications:
" Minimum of twenty (20) years experience as a practicing attorney, crown or state Counsel, Attorney or a Judge in a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
" Experience in a Supervisory/Management position in a legal environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chief Justice will be required to preside and determine cases, administer and manage the judiciary, court personnel, facilities, security and court business, in addition to his judicial duties.

He/she will have responsibility, upon request, to provide financial management assistance to the courts including review of the budget requests and information as submitted by the Registrar.

REMUNERATION:
The remuneration package is as follows:
SALARY BZ$150,000.00 per annum ENTERTAINMENT ALLOWANCE BZ$1,000.00 per month
UTILITY ALLOWANCE BZ$1,000.00 pr month
HOUSING ALLOWANCE BZ$4,000.00 per month (If Belizean)
VACATION GRANT 2 Business Class Tickets per annum (for the Chief Justice & spouse)

Government will provide housing fully furnished if successful applicant is recruited from abroad.

The Government will pay airfares and for transporting personal effects for the Chief Justice, his/her spouse, and minor children to and from Belize at the beginning and conclusion of service.

AGE LIMIT
45 to 60 years

TRANSPORT FACILITIES:
A Government issued motor vehicle, along with a Police Driver is available for the use of the Chief Justice. The vehicle is provided with fuel as required.

VACATION LEAVE:
Thirty (30) working days per annum.

GRATUITY:
20% gratuity is paid on the total basic salary received after each year of completed service.
